The Teruel Airport Consortium has put out to tender the construction of a hangar and a production facility for stratospheric zeppelins intended for the provision of telecommunications and space research services.

The tender budget amounts to 36,598,681.63 euros, will be financed with the Teruel Investment Fund (FITE) and contemplates a multi-year investment in the years 2024 --4 million euros--, 2025 --20 million-- and 2026 --12.59 million--. The execution period will be 20 months from the start of the works, which is expected to be completed by the first half of 2026.

According to the project, written by aeronautical engineer Pablo Senchermés and approved by the Governing Council of the Teruel Airport Consortium in October 2023, the aforementioned facility will be made up of three different areas: a goods reception area, a production area and a hangar.

The building will have a rectangular floor plan measuring 376.20 x 70.80 meters. Its shape responds to the function it will house, with 3 formal typologies: gabled industrial warehouse with a height of 23.10 meters corresponding to the merchandise and production area, a barrel vault 57.10 meters high corresponding to the hangar area and a door box formed by a 6-sided polyhedral structure 57.10 meters high.

In front of the east facade of the hangar there will be a platform for the take-off of the airship with dimensions of 300 x 220 meters.

In front of the west facade, a platform will be projected so that this type of vehicles can maneuver and reverse into the merchandise unloading area. On the south facade of the hangar there will be a series of parking spaces for workers, as well as two parking spaces for helium tank vehicles.

For the managing director of Teruel Airport, Alejandro Ibrahim, the tender for this new hangar "is the most important and largest investment of all those that have been made to date at the airport."

ATTRACT NEW ACTIVITIES

With the construction of this new hangar and production warehouse, Teruel Airport will attract a new activity, such as flights in the stratosphere with zeppelin-type aircraft for telecommunications or research services, among others.

MORE ACTIVITY, MORE JOBS

The tender for the new hangar is part of the strategy to expand surfaces and expand activities at Teruel Airport, where work is currently underway on the construction of a 5,000-square-meter warehouse in the industrial area and another 1,500-meter warehouse in the southern area.

In addition, the fencing of the aerospace area was recently completed and tenders were put out for the expansion and paving of the phase V parking lot, the expansion of the phase III aircraft parking apron and a new vehicle parking lot with 160 parking spaces. All of this within a 2024-2027 Strategic Plan that plans to double the number of direct jobs to nearly 900 and reach 3,600 indirect jobs.

The deputy mayor of the Teruel City Council, Juan Carlos Cruzado, has referred to this, who has pointed out that "this type of action at the airport places Teruel in the world and, what is very important, is that each of the "The hangars that we built at Teruel Airport represent the arrival of a new company that generates direct qualified jobs and favors companies that are already in Teruel and encourages the arrival of new companies."
