• The Consortium's budget will reach €46.3 million in 2026, 50% more than the previous year.
• The commissioning of IAC's second paint hangar, the new terminal, and the strategic airship hangar will mark an operational turning point.
• The General Manager, Alejandro Ibrahim, confirms that the milestone of 1,000 direct jobs will be reached in companies linked to the airport.
Teruel, December 30, 2025 – Teruel Airport (AT) faces 2026 as the year of its greatest transformation since its inauguration. The Managing Director, Alejandro Ibrahim, today outlined the strategic roadmap that will transform the Teruel airport into a unique industrial and technological hub in Europe, supported by public and private investment exceeding €160 million in the last two years.
2026: The Year of Major Infrastructure Projects
Throughout 2026, the airport will see the completion of several of its most ambitious projects outlined in the 2024-2027 Strategic Plan:
• Stratospheric Airship Hangar: By the end of 2026, the largest airship hangar in Europe will be completed, with a budget of €40 million allocated to "New Space" and telecommunications projects, consolidating Teruel as a leading "stratoport."
• Terminal Expansion: In the summer of 2026, the new terminal building will open, doubling its current size to house new technology offices, innovation labs, and employee service areas.
• Phase V Apron Expansion with New PIGA: This project, with an investment of €12 million, will be completed in early 2026. It will create an aircraft parking area with a capacity of 70 to 140 aircraft, depending on size.
• Second Paint Hangar (IAC): With an investment of €20 million, the multinational International Aerospace Coatings (IAC) will begin operations in its second hangar at the end of 2026, allowing for the simultaneous treatment of large aircraft and generating 70 new specialized jobs.
• New Aircraft Recycling Area: Construction has begun on the new 80,000 m² recycling area in the new PIGA, in partnership with the company AIR. • Boost to the Defense Sector: 2026 will mark the start of construction on the Ministry of Defense's CIEMA (Comprehensive Air Training and Mobility Center), a €42 million project that will attract 350 professionals to the province.
• MIURA5 Rocket Testing: With 10 test benches and 150,000 m2, PLD Space's facilities have become the largest rocket testing facility of a private company in Europe.
An Engine of Employment and Training
The physical growth of the platform translates into an unprecedented social impact. Ibrahim highlighted that the airport will surpass 1,000 direct jobs and 1,700 indirect jobs in 2026, consolidating its position as the main economic driver of Teruel. Furthermore, the inauguration of the new Education Hangar will allow aeronautical vocational training to be fully integrated into the daily operations of the complex.
"2026 is not just a date on the calendar; it is the moment when Teruel ceases to be merely a maintenance center and becomes a true aerospace city," declared Alejandro Ibrahim. "We are demonstrating that from inland Spain, it is possible to lead global innovation in sustainability, drones, and stratospheric technology."
Sustainability and the Future
Under Ibrahim's leadership, Teruel Airport continues its commitment to the circular economy. The expansion of the Phase V apron will increase parking capacity to 250 aircraft, while simultaneously strengthening aeronautical material recycling centers and research into sustainable fuels (SAF) and hydrogen.
It has more than 1.6 MW of photovoltaic power plants that produce energy for self-consumption and generate clean energy at the airport, and participates in several European aircraft material recycling projects, as well as aerospace innovation projects.
