The Aeronautical Cluster of Aragon, AERA, consists of 28 companies and technological centres. The fact that there is not any Tier 1, nor a driving company in the region determines the type of company. Although there are more and more associates with cross-cutting operations, such as UAV, Espacio, airport services, recycling, etc., the type of company is mainly metalworking. In 2015, the turnover of the companies from AERA reached 449.7 million euro.
The key objective of AERA is to work for the SMEs, by facilitating the collaboration between companies, with the technological and the knowledge centres. In the case of Aragon, many manufacturing companies are not originally aeronautic. These companies come from other sectors, and the aeronautic is a spin-off which provides them with growth and stability.
Noelia Sanz is the manager of AERA and she is proud of the excellent relations with the other national clusters, with those collaborating in different projects, as well as of its international part. AERA is a founding member of EACP (European Aerospace Cluster Partnership), whose mission is the exchange of information and ideas between similar European organisations, and the establishment of long-term relations in order to develop joint projects.
The Airport of Teruel is part of this Aeronautical Cluster, whose manager, Alejandro Ibrahim, is also the vice chairman of AERA. This collaboration improves the development of the aviation industry in Aragon, which is growing significantly.
